Kids and kids at heart are excited for the upcoming "Toy Story 4" movie, which is confirmed to be in the works at Pixar. However, fans may have to wait a little longer to see the animated film, as the release date has been pushed back to 2019 to accommodate another highly-anticipated Pixar sequel.
From the initial 2018 release date, the "Toy Story 4" movie is expected to hit theaters on June 21, 2019. According to EW, "The Incredibles 2" will take the original release date assigned for "Toy Story 4." "The Incredibles" director and writer Brad Bird will return to helm the superhero sequel.
As for "Toy Story 4," it will not follow the storyline from the original trilogy, which focused on the tales of adventures and friendship of Woody and Buzz Lightyear.
"It's hard, because as we get in there, we realize you don't want this to just be another regurgitation of something we've seen," Pixar's Pete Docter told EW. "We've really plumbed the depths of these characters with Woody and Buzz, so to find something new that hasn't been done, I feel like we're onto it now. But it's taken some real deep investigative work."
So far, it was announced that the fourth film will focus on the love story of Woody and Bo Peep, a theme that was inspired by the marriage of Pixar's resident filmmaker John Lasseter.
Lasseter, who created the first two "Toy Story" films, returns as the director of the fourth movie. Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are penning the screenplay for the movie.
"Toy Story" first premiered in 1995 and starred Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. In December 2015, Hanks confirmed that he was reprising his role as the beloved space ranger who popularized the saying, "To infinity and beyond!" "Toy Story 3," which was released in 2010, remains as Pixar's highest-grossing movie ever, raking in $1.1 billion globally. In "Toy Story 4," Annie Potts will voice Bo Peep.
Aside from "Toy Story" and "The Incredibles," another "Monsters Inc." movie is reportedly being discussed at Pixar.
"Toy Story 4" is expected to hit theaters on June 21, 2019.
