Multi-awarded musician John Legend has released a captivating music video for his new song "Love Me Now". His new music video features themes on universal love and social justice portrayed in shots from different parts of the world and special appearances from his model-wife Chrissy Teigen and baby daughter, Luna.
According to a Rolling Stone article, Legend's new video presented shots from four different locations around the world - the memorial at Orlando's Pulse Nightclub, North Dakota's Standing Rock Reservation, and the Domiz Refugee Camp in Northern Iraq and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.
The "Love Me Now" music video which was directed Nabil Elderkin featured themes on universal love and also touched recent and important issues in the society such as LGBT rights, racism and the Standing Rock's fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline.
In a press release obtained by Billboard, the music video director explained the message and significance of each shot presented in the video.
"From one of the longest standing refugee camps in northern Iraq just 45 miles outside of Mosul, to Standing Rock Reservation, where they are fighting against the Dakota Access Pipeline that threatens their sacred lands and all of our water, it is a glimpse into these couples' lives and the lives of those in their communities," Elderkin revealed.
In addition, album producer Blake Mills described Legend's new music as the multi-awarded singer's "manifesto".
"Following the tradition of soul/R&B music that celebrates love and challenges indecency, 'Darkness and Light' digs into John's long-standing devotion to social justice, the challenges and rewards of a marriage constantly in the public eye and the recent birth of his first child, Luna. This record goes against the grain, boldly reminding us that though darkness is abound, it is the light that will ultimately push us forward," Mills said in a statement released to Rolling Stone online.
"Love Me Now" is one of the songs in Legend's soon to be released album called "Darkness and Light". This is his fifth album which will be available on Dec. 2.
