Singer John Legend released on Friday a new music video “Love Me Now.” It features his infant daughter Baby Luna and wife Chrissy Teigen.
While the music video contains powerful images of immigrant families, refugees, minorities and LGBT couples, Legend said when he planned the release date for the song and the video, he did not think about the result of the Nov. 8 presidential election in the U.S., Perez Hilton wrote in his blog.
The couples he featured in the music video are from communities in Orlando, Florida; Domix Refugee Camp in northern Iraq; Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic; and Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota which have been hit with tragedy and suffering. But in all of these places, despite the pain, the resiliency of love prevails, MTV pointed out.
Republican candidate Donald Trump’s unexpected win places immigrants and minorities, such as Mexicans and Muslims, at risk because of the billionaire’s campaign promise to deport illegal immigrants and ban Muslims if he would win the election. As a result, indignation rallies are currently being held in a number of U.S. cities to protest Trump’s victory.
In an Instagram post, Legend said, “But in this time of conflict and uncertainty, it’s clear that we all need more love … Love is universal. We all can give it. And it will ultimately win over hate. I have to believe that.”
Nabil Elderkin directed the video which shows clips of Legend belting heartfelt lyrics to Teigen and his six-month-old daughter. “I don’t know who’s gonna kiss you when I’m gone … So I’m gonna love you now, like it’s all I have,” he crooned over piano and percussion.
According to Rolling Stone, “Love Me Now,” which Legend debuted in October, is part of his upcoming fifth studio album “Darkness and Light” that would be released on Dec. 2. The music video has become viral with almost 1.4 million hits in just 19 hours.
