"Pacific Rim: Maelstrom," which has been confirmed as the official title of the upcoming sequel to the giant robots vs. monsters film "Pacific Rim," has just added a brand new actor to its cast. It has been confirmed that "Spartacus" star Nick Tarabay has been signed on as the film heads into production.

Tarabay's role in the film has not yet been disclosed but fans are eager to see him pilot a Jaeger and battle it out with the Kaiju monsters alongside "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" actor John Boyega, who has been roped in to play the lead role. The film also stars Scott Eastwood and Chinese actress Jing Tian, Variety reported.

Tarabay has made appearances on several television shows in a recurring or guest role. His credits include shows like "Arrow," "Castle," "Person of Interest," and "Longmire" but the actor is best known for playing Ashur in the Starz's hit "Spartacus," according to Cinema Blend.

"Pacific Rim" has been in the pipeline for quite some time now and the film has hit several stumbling blocks such as "Pacific Rim" creator Guillermo del Toro decided not to direct the follow-up. However, the filmmaker still remains attached to the project in a producer's capacity with "Spartacus" creator Steven S. DeKnight on board as director.

DeKnight will helm the project based on the concept created by del Toro and Travis Beacham, both of whom worked on the 2013 original. "Pacific Rim" was set in the near future, when Earth is attacked by monsters that emerged from an interdimensional portal located beneath the Pacific Ocean. The film, which starred Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba among others, was a blockbuster hit and raked in more than $410 million worldwide.

The film has already started filming in Australia and is slated to open in theaters on Feb. 23, 2018. DeKnight posted the following photo on Twitter last week.
