DeMarcus Cousins, Klay Thompson and Anthony Davis find themselves in the middle of NBA trade rumors, all of which have been linked as possibly headed to the Boston Celtics. Understandably, most are just speculations though anything can shock basketball fans as the season progresses.
Of the three, Klay Thompson has been somehow cleared. Analyst Brian Scalabrine caused quite a stir recently though he eventually cleansed his hands by saying that word of a Thompson trade originate from ‘other sources’. All this was eventually threshed out when Steve Kerr shot down the idea, Mercury News reported.
Though he has struggled early this season, it would be premature to trade off the streak shooter who has been valuable to the cause of Kerr. As things stand now, Thompson isn’t primed to move anywhere.
The case is different though for Cousins and Davis. The former has been tied up to NBA trade rumors since last year but the heat could be turned up seeing how the Kings continue to struggle. The team is on its fifth coach (Dave Joerger) in the Cousins era and nothing has really materialized, Forbes reported.
The word out is that Cousins is on the block though no team has officially come forward to pry Cousins away from the Kings. The Celtics have long been known as “Boogie” suitors but nothing has come close to happening.
The sudden mention of Anthony Davis comes as a surprise, the pillar of the New Orleans Pelicans. Similar to Cousins and the Kings, nothing has happened so far under the watch of head coach Alvin Gentry who is in his second year with the Pelicans.
The Celtics have again been linked with Davis reportedly thinking highly of coach Brad Stevens and the vastly improved team from Bean Town. But rather than move there, it was something the all-star center wanted to see in New Orleans. Can Gentry possibly do the same sans big names?
If not with the Pelicans, Davis could surely savor the well-oiled basketball philosophy directly under Stevens. It may take a lot to get the 23-year-old from the Pelicans though Danny Ainge can definitely pull some strings.
