Drivers of the Tesla Model S P100D electric luxury five-door liftback will soon be able to go from zero to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, if they can discover how.

According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, their top-level model will get a software upgrade in December and along with it will be an Easter egg that car owners will have to find. Once they learn how to enable the feature, it will allow them to go from zero to 60 a tenth of the second faster than before and even reach 0.25 mile in 10.6 seconds.

"Looks like the Model S P100D Easter egg will allow it to do 0 to 60 mph in 2.4 sec and a 10.6 sec 1/4 mile via software update next month," tweeted Musk.


Before the upgrade, the Tesla Model S P100D, priced at $134,500, had already been known for its acceleration and is considered the fastest accelerating car currently in production. When the Ludicrous Mode is engaged, it can go from zero to 60 in 2.5 seconds.

According to Bloomberg, it can go head to head with the LaFerrari from Ferrari, priced at $1.42 million, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse from Bugatti, which costs $2.25 million, and the 918 Spyder from Porsche, with a price tag of $845,000. With the upgrade, though, the Tesla model can outpace the world's supercars in terms of acceleration.

This will not be the first time that Tesla will hide an Easter egg. The one that the company hid before changes the display on the control panel to make it look like the one on the Lotus, a submersible vehicle used in the 1977 James Bond movie, "The Spy Who Loved Me." All the driver has to do is key in the code "007" on the service login screen.

The Tesla Model S P100D has two motors, one in front and another at the back. The official website describes the powertrain to be quiet, and most everything can be controlled using the 17-inch touchscreen. It was introduced in August this year.
