Uruguayan midfielder Gaston Ramirez netted the lone goal of the contest with a header right at the hour mark, which proved to be the winner as both teams went scoreless for the rest of the match.
It was only the second win in the last six rounds for head coach Aitor Karanka's squad as they had three draws and one loss as well.
The Boro is currently settled at the 13th spot in the English top flight table, two points below Southampton and only four points ahead of Sunderland and Hull City, who are both part of the bottom three zone.
