Things will start to get interesting in Mikeo Ikomoto's Boruto: Naruto Next Generation next year, with the series' villain Kawaki expected to make appearance tentatively after the Boruto: Naruto the Movie recap.
Since its debut last May, the Boruto manga series hasn't received much rave from readers and critics alike, largely because it's just the re-telling of the events that happened in the Boruto movie. Other than the revelation that Gaara adopted one of the new Sona Trio (Shinki), there isn't much new stuff that happened through the first seven chapters of the series.
However, everything is about to change this coming Spring, with the start of new story arc for Boruto: Naruto Next Gen. The questions and mysteries left unanswered in the movie and the manga adaptation will be finally unraveled one by one.
What to Expect in the upcoming Arc
--The story will take place after Boruto Movie in Konoha. There, Boruto, Sarada and Mitsuki will be meeting someone the same age as them. His name is Kawaki and he has one purpose - the destruction of the ninja world and its history.
-Metal Lee's mother will be finally unveiled. Tenten is the prime candidate to be the mother of Konoha's newest hot-blooded shinobi. Nothing is confirmed yet, but if you can just analyze the scene in Naruto Ninja Storm, it would suggest that Rock Lee and Tenten had something special going on at that time.
-Mitsuki's Sage power. No one had perfected the Snake Sage Mode, not even Orochimaru or his student Kabuto. However, In Masashi Kishimoto's last one-shot manga Naruto: The Path the Waxing Moon Illuminates, it was revealed that Oro's son, Mitsuki, has perfected the sage mode at a tender age, making him arguably the most strongest shinobi among his peers in Ninja Academy.
The new chapter could finally reveal this immense power of Mitsuki and the reason why Orochimaru had to create this overpowered shinobi.
Boroto OVA Anime Series:
Naruto Shippuden will continue to provide episodes covering the stories after chapter 66 of the original Naruto series. According to Naruto Reddit, Naruto Shippuden will likely air episodes of Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring around Spring 2017.
