The new project "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff is in the works almost three years after the original CBS series signed off the small screens. Titled as "How I Met Your Father," it will be written by the "This is Us" executive producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger and will be featuring a different set of characters.
The "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff will be told in female point of view, where the female character will tell the story how she met her better half. "How I Met Your Father" is in development from the same "How I Met Your Mother" studio 20th TV, according to Deadline.
In 2014, original series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and "Saturday Night Live" alum Emily Spive created "How I Met your Dad," but it did not materialize as CBS did not pick up the pilot. It casts Greta Gerwig with Meg Ryan narrating.
This time, the entire idea of the "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff will have a makeover from Aptaker and Berger, E! News reported. Bays and Thomas will be the show's executive producers, but they will not be directly involved with the project because they are under Sony TV exclusive contract. Aside from that, they also have a new comedy work that stars comedian Chris Distefano at CBS.
"How I Met Your Father" is not a typical sequel and would only copy the original style of the original's storytelling. Unlike the original and the first spinoff project that landed on CBS, this new project is open to other networks. There is no specific date yet when the "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff will be released.
Released in 2005, "How I Met Your Mother" ran up to nine seasons. Although it was not as successful as "The Big Bang Theory" and "Modern Family," it was a groundbreaking project that attracted younger viewers. It was also the first TV comedy series that had online followers.
The original series was a breakthrough TV project for Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan. It also gave then-newbies Cobie Smulders, Jason Segel and Radnor a chance to show their talents on the small screen.
