The Young Bucks are one of the best tag teams in the world that are not in the WWE. A recent report revealed that Matt and Nick Jackson almost signed with the WWE earlier this year due because of A.J. Styles.
In an interview with Vice Sports, The Young Bucks revealed that they almost joined the WWE because of Styles. They pointed out that if only Styles told them he will sign with the WWE much earlier, they probably would not sign a new deal with Ring of Honor.
"When A.J. was about to leave, he pulled us aside before anybody knew anything and he asked us about our contracts. At that point, it was December and we had just signed. We signed in November," Matt said.
"He's like, 'You did? Ughhh.' The idea was he was going to try and get us to walk out with him and be the guys with him. If we never signed, there's a great chance we could have been walking out on Raw with those guys, I feel," he added.
Back in January, Styles along with Shinsuke Nakamura, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson signed with the WWE. It was a big raid by Vince McMahon on New Japan Pro Wrestling talents and it could have been more if The Young Bucks were included.
However, they signed an exclusive deal with ROH and NJPW before being courted by Styles. It should be noted that Matt and Nick had a tryout for the WWE in 2011 but they ended up not being signed. They went on to blossom in the independent circuit and became one of the best tag teams in the world.
The Young Bucks are the current tag team champions for several promotions around the world. They are holding the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team championships in NJPW, the PWG tag team titles and the ROH tag team belts.
They could have been misused by the WWE if they have signed with them earlier this year. Gallows and Anderson were one of the best tag teams in the world before they signed with the WWE. But they have been booked terribly since arriving in January.
There were reports that the WWE is interested in signing The Young Bucks early next year. However, Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer (subscription required) reported that Matt and Nick signed a new two-year deal with ROH and NJPW.
