Apple Music has definitely gained a lot of traction this past year. It has held its own in the midst of other popular streaming services such as the established Spotify and another up and coming service Tidal. In fact, Apple Music has garnered over 20 million subscribers in the mere 18 months since its launch.
However, Apple does not only delve into music, as they are also a well-known supplier of books, mobile apps, movies, as well as other digital goods and services. Now Apple has released its year-end charts, listing the best sellers in all of these fields. Apple has even released of all of these lists as playlists, so one can enjoy them with greater comfort.
Music
Drake clinched the top spot when it came to singles and albums, with his song "One Dance" and his album "Views" respectively, according to CNET. Amazingly, Adele's 2015 release "25" is still one of the top sellers the following year. The soundtrack to "Hamilton" also made the list along with the 2016 releases from big names such as Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, and the Chainsmokers. In a year full of big music releases, this definitely came as a pretty big surprise.
Applications
Some popular apps included Prisma, a photo editing app, according to Apple. However, perhaps one of the most popular applications of the year is the social media platform Snapchat.
Movies and TV Shows
"The Martian" was one of the best-selling movies of the year along with superhero movie "Deadpool" and the latest installment in the "Star Wars" franchise, "The Force Awakens." In terms of television shows it may come as no surprise to most that "The Walking Dead," "House of Cards," and most unsurprisingly "Game of Thrones" were chart toppers. This year also saw the release of original shows from streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, which saw great popularity among viewers.
Apple's Year and list also features some things that they felt like were not given enough attention in 2016. These include up and coming bands, as well as lesser known books and movies, among other types of content. Everything mentioned in this article as well as lots of other good content can be found on Apple's year-end playlists.
