Apple could be launching three new heavy hitters in the iPhone department in 2017 based on a new leak from China. The new models could be named the iPhone 7s, the iPhone 7s Plus and a mysteriously-codenamed Ferrari variant.
There has been no official announcement from Apple but the Cupertino-based tech giant's hardware cycle indicate that there will be new releases in 2017. Fans have been waiting for the iPhone 8 which will reportedly have the very first OLED screen for its display instead of the traditional LCD that are used in the current iPhone line.
One Sina Weibo user leaked the alleged Apple manufacturing documents that has details on the new iPhone 7 or possibly iPhone 8 smartphones, Apple Insider reported. They have the codenames of D20, D21 and D22 with the last one also internally named Ferrari.
Since the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices were named D10 and D20, it would not be surprising that the rumored models will be the iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7s Plus. The Ferrari model is also rumored to be the highly-anticipated iPhone 8 with the edge-to-edge screen similar to Xiaomi's new bezel-less smartphone.
The leaked documents also show that the iPhone 8's internal logic board will be split into two with a ribbon cable connecting them, Phone Arena reported. The one half will house the A11 chipset from Apple and the internal storage chip while the other half will feature the common cellular components.
KGI Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already stated in his November forecast that Apple could launch the iPhone 8 with either a 5.1- or a 5.2-inch OLED screen which will reportedly be sourced from Samsung, one of Apple's rivals in the smartphone industry. The iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus could also reportedly launch earlier than the iPhone 8 considering that the third model is a leap from the current generation.
