When "Once Upon a Time" Season 6 returns to the small screens, viewers will see Emma (Jennifer Morrison) trying to prevent the prophecy of her death from happening. Recently, co-showrunner Adam Horowitz shared his thoughts about a fan theory surrounding Emma's future in the ABC fantasy series.
"Once Upon a Time" Season 6 is set to feature Emma and Gideon's (Giles Matthey) impending battle that is expected to take the protagonist's life. With many viewers worried over Emma's fate in the ABC series, several fans came up with story speculations that would keep the Storybrooke Savior safe and alive.
One of the popular fan theories teased that Gideon will still kill Emma, but it would be a different version of the said character. Some fans speculated that Emma will use a similar spell that Regina's (Lana Parrilla) utilized to split herself into two persons.
Moreover, the Emma that Gideon is prophesied to kill would be her doppelganger and not the real Savior. However, the "Once Upon a Time" showrunner commented that the said scenario will not happen in the ABC series.
Horowitz told Entertainment Weekly that they have no plans of creating a doppelganger version of Emma in the back half of "Once Upon a Time" Season 6. Emma and Gideon are still set to meet each other in a battle that will ultimately determine the Storybrooke Savior's fate.
The showrunner also teased that viewers should focus on why Gideon is adamant to kill Emma in the first place. Gideon's backstory with the Black Fairy will also be one of the storylines that will be explored in upcoming episodes, according to Horowitz.
Meanwhile, Emma and Regina are faced with the challenge of finding a way out of the Wish Realm, after they missed the portal that would have sent them back to Storybrooke. Featured in the midseason finale of "Once Upon a Time" Season 6, Regina became distracted when she saw the Wish Realm version of her beloved Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) that she ended up running towards him instead of jumping into the portal with Emma.
In an interview with TVLine, co-showrunner Eddy Kitsis stated that Wish Realm version of Regina's deceased love will serve as one of the obstacles that will delay the two ladies' return to Storybrooke. He added, "That's a curveball no one was expecting."
The midseason premiere of "Once Upon a Time" Season 6 will be released in March on ABC. Watch a teaser clip for the upcoming episode below:
