South Korean girl group 2NE1 will release their last song as a group as a gift and farewell to fans. The single, "Goodbye" will be dropped on Jan. 21. Fans are hoping that group's youngest member Minzy will join her "unnies" for the group's final song.
On. Jan. 5, 2NE1's label YG Entertainment announced that the Kpop group will release their final track. The new song will express the regrets of the members for suddenly disbanding after rumors of their comeback floated and even teasing fans with material they thought they will release.
However, the new track will feature the remaining three members of 2NE1. Unfortunately, original member Minzy will not join her unnies for the final song. Minzy left the group and YG Entertainment months before the disbandment once her contract expired. Minzy's departure from the group is cited by YG as one of the main factors for the decision. She is currently preparing for her solo debut under Music Works.
There are rumors claiming that the release of the final song aims to help Park Bom to clear her image and to help her re-enter the entertainment industry. Park Bom's drug scandal in 2014 has been the main reason of the group's hiatus. She reportedly smuggled amphetamines in Seoul hidden inside a teddy bear. However, the singer was off the hook after she has presented a prescription from the United States where the drug is legal.
YG Entertainment has disbanded 2NE1 in November 2016 allegedly due to Park Bom's drug addiction. Moreover, YG is reportedly under a crisis due to the scandal of President Park Geun-hye. Reports claimed that a YG director has close ties with the president and Choi Soon-sil, who are now facing corruption charges.
