"Fargo" actress Kirsten Dunst joins "America's Most Admired Lawbreaker" actors George Clooney and Grant Heslov for a dark comedy TV series "On Becoming a God In Central Florida" at AMC. She has landed her next TV role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dunst is attached to star in an hourlong dark comedy "On Becoming a God In Central Florida." She would play Krystal Gill, who is a minimum-wage Orlando water park employee, recently widowed, and has been left with nothing.
Dunst's character Gill lies, schemes, and cons her way up the ranks of Founders American Merchandise in "On Becoming a God In Central Florida," Deadline reported. The said merchandise is the cultish, flag-waving, multibillion-dollar pyramid scheme that drove her to ruin in the first place.
"On Becoming a God In Central Florida" is described as a darkly comedic story about the cult of free enterprise. It centers on one woman's relentless pursuit of the American dream in the early 1990s.
"The Lobster" helmer Yorgos Lanthimos is attached to direct "On Becoming a God In Central Florida" from the script written by Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky. The trio will executive produce alongside Dunst and Oscar winners Clooney and Heslov.
Clooney and Heslov's Smokehouse Pictures will produce "On Becoming a God In Central Florida" with Sony's TriStar Television and AMC Studios. Sarah Shepard for Smokehouse will oversee the project.
"Spider-Man" alumna Dunst earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her performance in FX's limited series "Fargo" Season 2, which marked her first series regular role. She currently can be seen in the historical drama "Hidden Figures." Her other recent TV work includes a 2014 episode of "Portlandia."
Clooney and Heslov just signed an overall TV deal with Sony in June. Their TV slate also includes "America's Most Admired Lawbreaker," based on the serialized Huffington Post article by journalist Steven Brill that is being adapted for the small screen by "Making A Murderer" filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos.
"On Becoming a God In Central Florida" also marks a reunion for Clooney and Dunst. It is already in the early stages of development at AMC. Dunst recurred as Charlie Chiemingo on Clooney's medical drama "ER" Season 3.
