Marvel Comics has released the first preview for "Star Wars: Darth Maul #1",offering a glimpse of the infamous villain. "Darth Maul # 1" is a new "Star Wars" limited comic book miniseries written by "Deadpool" and "Monsters Unleashed" writer Cullen Bunn and illustrated by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens Adaptation" artist Luke Ross.
The miniseries will reportedly explore pieces of Darth Maul's secret past in the new timeline and hint at his motivations in "Star Wars Rebels," which currently airs on Disney XD. It will also follow the character when his anxiousness and thirst for vengeance is at an all-time high. The Darth Maul was killed off in his first and only cinematic appearance 18 years ago.
"Star Wars: Darth Maul" will particularly shed light on the villain's time as an apprentice to Darth Sidious, who was then serving as a senator from the planet Naboo, as well as his time as a trainee to the ruler of the Galactic Empire, Emperor Palpatine. In the miniseries, Darth Sidious will reportedly ask the main character to practice patience and ploy as Darth Maul's fury brews. However, Maul will run out of patience and ultimately decide to set out on a mission to track down and kill all the cutthroats and nastiest creatures in the galaxy, according to Comicbook.
"Darth Maul # 1" is initially set before "Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace," but will also feature flashbacks to Maul's training in the ways of the Sith. Marvel has recently released some pages from the series, hinting that the Darth Maul will take on some of the Rathtars that were first introduced in "The Force Awakens."
In "Star Wars Rebels," Maul has tried several times to take on an apprentice, particularly Ezra Bridger. The story of "Darth Maul # 1" will focus on his efforts to turn a Jedi Padlawan named Eldra Kaitis to the dark side after being taken by a crime lord. This will shed light on why Maul has always wanted so badly to have an apprentice, Nerdist reported.
"Star Wars: Darth Maul # 1" is the baddie's first Marvel miniseries since "The Phantom Menace." The series premieres on Feb. 1 on Disney.
