Breakfasts are usually just made up of coffee, and just coffee, just because it takes up some precious time to fix breakfast. What most people do not know is that the simple act of eating breakfast plays a significant part in a person's weight loss.
Many people make the mistake of skipping breakfast because they think that they are cutting on the calories, when they do not, because they get themselves starved during lunch. In fact, a study has revealed that eating a full English breakfast is beneficial in weight loss.
This is explained by the lead researcher Dr. Maki where he said that it is because protein has the ability to make you feel full longer and that reduces your hunger during lunch, according to The Healthy Employee. "Eating a breakfast rich in protein significantly improves appetite control and may help to avoid overeating later in the day." He said.
The study was conducted among people aging 18 to 55 where all of them were given breakfast containing the same calorie content as well as same amount of fat and fiber but half were given protein, while the other half were just given a glass of water. They were given questionnaires to gauge their level of hunger throughout the morning and it was found that those who had breakfast were more satisfied and felt less hungry. They also consumed less during lunch time.
Because of this, Dr. Maki came to a conclusion that eating at least 35g of protein for breakfast can be helpful in regulating appetite and making a person feel fuller longer.
In another study by the University of Missouri-Columbia, it was found that those who do not eat breakfast are more likely to be obese, according to Express. The researchers discovered that protein-rich meals in the morning can reduce food cravings and make a person avoid over eating throughout the day.
Professor Heather Leidy told Nutrition Journal: "Our research showed people experience a dramatic decline in cravings for sweet foods when they eat breakfast.
"However, breakfasts high in protein also reduced cravings for savoury or high-fat foods. If breakfast is skipped, these cravings continue to rise throughout the day."
