Two "X-Men" television shows are currently in development. FX is moving ahead with "Legion" and Fox is currently working on an untitled show, spearheaded by writer Matt Nix. The latter will be connected to the "X-Men" movies and further cementing this is the revelation that the show will feature Sentinels.
One of the main differences between the two shows is that "Legion" is not in any way tied to the movies, "Legion" producer Lauren Shuler Donner explained in an interview with IGN. She then stated that the Fox series is connected to the films but not in ways fans are expecting.
"Matt's project is much more a part of just the 'X-Men' world in terms of there are mutants, mutants are hated and there are Sentinels - though very different from what we've seen before," Donner stated.
Featuring the Sentinels, particularly with their full size and abilities, would be costly for a television show. One of the options to work around this is to make the Sentinels smaller, making them human-sized enemies, Polygon reported.
This is still dependent on whether or not Fox decides to move forward with the show and order a pilot. The network recently received a draft of the script from Nix but an official series pickup has yet to be announced.
Sentinels were prominently featured in "X-Men: Days of Future Past." The movie presented them as machines capable of identifying and eliminating any mutant it comes across. A Sentinel was also teased in "X-Men: The Last Stand" but only as a destroyed machine head.
"Legion," on the other hand, will focus on the character of David Haller (Dan Stevens), the mutant son of Professor Charles Xavier. The show is not tied to the films and will take place in its own version of the mutant society that the "X-Men" live in.
No official date for the Fox series has yet been announced. Sentinels can be seen in the "X-Men: Days of Future Past" trailer below:
