After the release of the new MacBook from Apple which sports a single USB-C port, Google has jumped into the bandwagon as well and released its updated version of the Chromebook Pixel with not one but two USB-C ports.
Aside from the inclusion of the USB-C port, the new Chromebook Pixel sports a fresh color for its metal housing, weighs a bit lighter compared to the first version and an added rubber at the bottom of the device which gives it more clearance to the ground it sits in.
Not much has changed to the new Chromebook Pixel's outside appearance; it still has the 12.95-inch touchscreen display with 2560x1700 high density resolution and a pixel density of 239 ppi.
Google focused into upgrading the Chromebook Pixel under its hood and the new version features a very powerful fifth generation Intel i5 chip. Based on Google's Octane benchmark, the new Chromebook Pixel scores 24,392 which is much higher compared to its predecessor which only scored 21,711.
Another upgrade added by Google was in the Pixel's cooling system. According to Tech Crunch, the previous model of Pixel heats up pretty fast and has loud fans while the new version sports two fans and works very well in keeping the device's temperature to minimum despite massive workload.
Google claims that the new Pixel can run up to 12 hours on single charge which is significantly higher compared to its old one which can completely drain the battery in about five hours of usage. In order to achieve this long lasting battery life, Google used a content-adaptive backlight which features a new breakthrough called the "panel self-refresh."
The new Pixel will come in two variant; one has Core i5 processor, 8GB of RM with 32GB SSD internal storage and costs $999. The other one costs $1,299 and has Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM and 64GB SSD internal storage. Both models use Intel's HD Graphics 5500 GPU.
The new Chromebook Pixel is currently available at Google's new online store, according to CNet.
