Sage Northcutt was one of the brightest MMA prospects when he was discovered on UFC president Dana White's show "Looking For A Fight," but a recent string of losses has put his fight career off track. A number of experienced fighters including Michael Chiesa have offered to train him and he has recently confirmed that he was invited to train with the Diaz brothers.
Northcutt currently trains with UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and holds a 3-2 record in the UFC after making his debut in the promotion back in October 2015. Critics have questioned his ability to grapple as well as his mental toughness. He claims though that he now has an appropriate solution for the latter in the form of Nick and Nate Diaz.
"[The Diaz brothers] mentioned getting some training together in the future so we will see what happens. They were just super nice guys so it was cool to meet them," Northcutt said in an interview with The MMA Hour. It would certainly be interesting to see the effects of this collaboration given the Diaz brothers' bad boy attitude and Northcutt's nice guy approach.
Northcutt has revealed that he has had trouble keeping his emotions in check during the buildup to a fight. He added that he is currently trying to figure out how to keep calm before and especially during his MMA bouts. Aside from this, he has also stated that he will no longer fight in the welterweight division and instead will make the move to the lightweight division as soon as possible, according to Yahoo Sports.
Nick Diaz is also mulling over a return to the Octagon and has claimed that his return will happen sooner rather than later. He has been cleared by the Nevada State Athletic Commission to resume his MMA career after he paid his fine for failing a post-fight drug test back in UFC 183. He may make his return at UFC 209, but has reportedly turned down the opportunity.
On the other hand, Nate Diaz has recently had his boxing license approved. His next fight may no longer be held in the Octagon, but in a boxing ring instead.
