Rumors have it that Google Pixel 2 will be powered by custom Snapdragon 83X chip and will also feature an enhanced camera. Speculations also hint that a cheaper Google Pixel is in works.
According to 9 to 5 Google that cites information from a reliable source, Google is working on bringing an improved camera on the successor phone for Google Pixel. The 12.3-mgeapixel camera present on Pixel and Pixel XL phones have received a rating of 89 on DxOMark benchmark. It is the best-ever DxOMark scored by a smartphone camera.
Just as the camera of Google Pixel is its main attraction, the camera of its successor will be one of its major features. The camera on the Pixel 2 is expected to come with advanced low-light photography support. Google may not increase the megapixel count on the Pixel 2's camera but it heavily rumored to bring new features.
Also, the search engine giant is testing the alleged Google Pixel 2 with enhanced SoCs from two different chip makers. It is learnt that some of the prototypes are tested with Snapdragon 83X chipset whereas others are tested with Intel chipsets. Some rumors also stated that Google has collaborated MediaTek, but new information suggest that it is not happening
The arrival of improved chipset on Google Pixel 2 suggest that the device will be arriving with a costlier price tag. Rumors also hint that the company may release a low-end Pixel smartphone that would carry an affordable price tag. Google is also rumored to be testing some prototypes that are dubbed as "Pixel 2B." This device may launch alongside or sometime after the release of Pixel 2.
The Pixel 2B with its lower price tag is expected to be aimed towards different markets. This can be an attempt from the company to bring Google experience to emerging markets. The Google Pixel 2 is rumored to be $50 costlier than the first generation model whereas the Pixel 2B is expected to be considerably cheaper, BGR reported.
Google is also pegged to bring some improvements to the chassis of the device. Apple introduced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with waterproof chassis. Google Pixel 2 rumors also hint that the smartphone would be arriving with a waterproof body.
