"Death Stranding" is one of the most anticipated video games for the Playstation 4. Developer Hideo Kojima is known for his "Metal Gear Solid" games, which were made when he worked for Konami, but has confirmed that the new game would play very differently.
"We want this game to be something that people can get into easily but after an hour or two they'll start to notice something a little different," Kojima told the BBC. "It's not like anything they've played before."
He further elaborated that his work on "Death Stranding" was similar to how musicians changed their style from album to album, always trying something new. He explained that while this means some long-term fans might not stick around, there will also be an influx of newcomers.
When discussing Playstation VR and its capabilities, Kojima explained that many game studios have not yet fully explored the technology's potential. The developer stated that Virtual Reality could bring out emotions that people have not yet experienced through traditional games or movies.
He did not state whether or not "Death Stranding" would be utilizing VR technology. However, there were rumors in 2016 suggesting he was testing the technology although this could be for a future game and not "Death Stranding" in particular.
Kojima explained that "Death Stranding" and other games from Kojima Productions would not follow the steps of some franchises like "Call of Duty" or "Assassin's Creed." He stated he did not want his studio to simply reuse assets or ideas and just churn out sequels.
Instead, Kojima expressed the desire to constantly make something new. This would indicate that the next game from Kojima Productions would not be a sequel to "Death Stranding."
Kojima also explained that "Death Stranding" and his future games were the culmination of all his years of experience, in a separate interview with IGN. This also includes his time working for Konami.
Despite having a rough experience with Konami, particularly during and after the development of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," Kojima stated every piece of influence, including Konami, has been with purpose and have helped shaped the developer he is now.
"Death Stranding" is scheduled to release before 2019 for the PS4. The official trailer can be viewed below:
