For two decades, Rockstar Games' "Grand Theft Auto" series has been a staple to gamers for different platforms. The "Grand Theft Auto V" has been a success behind producer Leslie Benzies but with him parting ways with Rockstar, a new video game project might challenge "GTA" and it is called "Everywhere."
Benzies, along with former Rockstar North audio director Matthew Smith and former lead programmer Colin Entwistle, are teaming for a "Everywhere" which Benzies said can allow players to "create their own narratives that include characters with a real personality" and live their fantasies, Polygon reported.
Smith shared that "Everywhere" does not have an specific genre and it breaks through boundaries of typical games. He added that instead of taking off from the ideas of their previous games, the "Everywhere" team has taken a fresher approach for their new project which Benzies revealed is utilizing Amazon's Lumberyard.
Benzies' parting ways with Rockstar Games might be a blessing in disguise as he now leads the team which will make a game touted to be not like any other. He still has a pending legal case against Rockstar Games which he sued for $150 million but instead on focusing on the case, Benzies' attention is on "Everywhere."
Unlike "GTA," which featured three main characters in its latest game, "Everywhere," as revealed by Smith, will have plenty of characters which players have the ability to customize their personalities. Also, Benzies added that players can control the tone of the game depending on their preferences.
"Everywhere" is a video game "simulates and fuses the real world with the virtual" and would let players live their own stories while living in the story of the game, according to the game's official website. It is being developed in Ediburgh, Scotland, Benzies home country, and Los Angeles, California.
Benzies said that since brainstorming about "Everywhere" in mid-2016, they are working on it at a pace they were not able to in the past. The game might still be years from being released but with the track record of Benzies and his two associates, it is something that is worth the wait.
