Marvel's "Doctor Strange 2" will most likely happen after the first one being a box-office hit but there is still no greenlight. Director Scott Derrickson does seem to be highly interested in directing the sequel.
Benedict Cumberbatch surprised fans as he entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his own solo movie, "Doctor Strange". The film will now be making its way to homes through a release for Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and On Demand on Feb. 28. It will also include the funny part two of the mockumentary series starring Thor and possibly other Marvel stars as well.
Derrickson told Coming Soon that the "Doctor Strange 2" villain could be Nightmare or Dracula based on the comics. Despite the whole MCU centered on being sci-fi above anything else, the horror-genre villains may still be possible.
"That's certainly where the comics went in the '80s but I also think that was probably the weakest era of the comics," said Derrickson. "The alternate dimensions and possibilities of the multiverse that we set up with the first film already give limitless possibilities. What I will say is that the goal would not be to underutilize that, or to create something that was less innovative than the first 'Doctor Strange.' "
Unfortunately, the fate of the sequel is still unknown at the moment. Derrickson told Digital Spy that there is still no "Doctor Strange 2" greenlight and that Marvel has not yet called him. With the first movie making over $664 million across the world, a sequel does seem more likely.
Cumberbatch will still be seen in the upcoming "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Avengers: Infinity War" as he would be playing a much larger role against Thanos or Loki. The new movies may give a clue as to what plot the "Doctor Strange 2" will take in the following years.
