After 2NE1 and I.O.I., another K-Pop girl group is heading for disbandment. It has been confirmed that the five-member girl group SPICA has will disband as a group after five years of activities.
The group comprises of Kim Boa, Park Sihyun, Park Narae, Yang Jiwon and Kim Bohyung, and was also nicknamed as "Lee Hyori's group." SPICA made its debut under B2M Entertainment in 2012 with the mini-album " Russian Roulette," according to All Kpop.
The group members came to the decision to disintegrate as a group after a lengthy discussion. The girls had already moved out of their dorm and were living apart from each other. Some of them have also started hunting for new agencies.
Although the group made its debut under B2M Entertainment, they failed to achieve success with the label. SPICA then signed with CJ E&M in 2015 and after a long hiatus, the group made a comeback in August 2016 with "Secret Time."
"The members of Spica met up and they all came to the decision to disband," CJ E&M officially announced in a statement obtained by Koreaboo. "The members are still discussing about their future plans."
Even though the group has split up, some of the group members' contracts with B2M Entertainment and CJ E&M still have not expired. There are ongoing discussions between the members and the agencies over contract obligations and the artists' remaining contract time.
The news of SPICA's disintegration comes months after news of 2NE1's went public. The girl group released their final song, titled "Goodbye," on Jan. 21, and the song has already garnered close to 11 million hits on YouTube. The 11-member girl group I.O.I also disbanded last year and said their final farewell with the release of the song "Downpour" on Jan. 17.
