Despite being unbeaten in three of their last five matches, Sunderland has remained in the bottom of the 20-team English top flight table. The team is tied on points with 19th-place squad Crystal Palace but has a lesser goal differential. They need another big win to get out of the bottom three relegation area.

The Black Cats are coming off a stunning 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace last Saturday on the road at the Selhurst Park for their second straight undefeated performance, as per Chronicle Live.

Ivorian defender Lamine Koné opened the scoring for head coach David Moyes' squad in the ninth minute of the contest before Gabonese midfielder Didier Ndong doubled the lead in the 43rd.

English striker Jermain Defoe then unleashed a brace in the 45th+1 and 45th+3 minutes to give Sunderland a 4-0 advantage at the half, a lead they never relinquished as the team shut out the hosts.

Meanwhile, Southampton has been struggling as of late with five losses in their last six games. The team has dropped to the 13th spot in the overall standings as a result, seven points above the bottom three relegation zone.

The Saints were romped by middling team West Ham United, 1-3, on their own home ground of St. Mary's Stadium also last Saturday, Channel News Asia reported.

Italian striker Manolo Gabbiadini broke the game's deadlock in the 12th minute but the visitors were quick to equalize with a goal by Andy Carroll just two minutes later.

West Ham then scored the next two goals, courtesy of Pedro Obiang and Mark Noble in the 44th and 52nd minutes respectively, to give head coach Claude Puel's side their 11th loss of the season.
