Ultimate Fighting Championship star Nate Diaz has claimed before that the mixed martial arts promotion is keeping him from gracing the Octagon. However, UFC president Dana White dismissed the accusations, saying they offered Diaz a fight but the lightweight title contender still has not responded to him.
Diaz, who has maintained that he will only fight again in the UFC if he will be offered a big bout or $20 million dollars, mustered only four words to counter White's offer: "Lol at your fight," Fox Sports reported. By saying huge fight, Diaz might be pertaining for a trilogy with reigning UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor.
Despite being offered a fight, possibly against former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, Diaz told reporters that he is being kept "on the shelf" by the UFC, prompting him to get a boxing license. But White said that Diaz, who only wants a fight against McGregor, still has not contacted him like other fighters who want a bout.
White told MMA Junkie that he has already offered Diaz a fight and he is still waiting to hear from him. Also, White offered Nate's brother, Nick, two fights, one against Robbie Lawler and the other against Demian Maia, but turned both down. White added that among all fighters in the UFC today, it is the Diaz brothers he struggles to get into the Octagon.
Diaz has last fought in August 2016 following a majority decision loss to McGregor at UFC 202. He is the only fighter in the UFC that holds the Irish fighter's lone loss after he submitted McGregor in the second round of their UFC 196 bout in March 2016.
If Diaz really wants McGregor to be his next fight, he would have to wait for a few months since the UFC's biggest star is still on a hiatus as he attends to his longtime girlfriend, Dee Devlin, who will be giving birth to their first child. Also, McGregor has been vocal that he wants to pursue a boxing career where he will face former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather for a blockbuster bout.
