"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will soon see the resurrection of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), but the character's return could also mean someone else's death.
According to Entertainment Weekly, a key cast member from the hit The CW series will die in the finale episode for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Executive producer Julie Plec told the publication that they want the ending to be emotional and impactful so they have decided to kill one major character.
As of late, it is still unclear which character Plec recently talked about, but there are rumors that it will be Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). Since Elena will be resurrected, the character could have a chance to reunite with Damon, but not for long. The latter will be killed off in a shocking and unexpected way.
After all, Somerhalder previously spoke with Variety to say that he does not think Damon deserves to have a happy ending. At that time, the actor was referring to Dobrev's return as Elena. Somerhalder does not think that Elena and Damon should end up together in the end especially after the latter has killed a lot of people throughout the past eight seasons.
Somerhalder added that he also thinks Damon or Stefan (Paul Wesley) do not deserve to live a long life since they have killed a lot of people.
"I want the audience to be happy, but I also am very pro human. I do not think these guys should have the ability to wreak havoc, kill everybody, ruin the lives of so many and then get out with a happy ending. I think the happy ending is that we got to go on this amazing ride with these two guys. They have lived long enough," he said.
Meanwhile, "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 only has a few more episodes left before its massive finale. In episode 16, former cast members who left The CW show will return. This includes Steven R. McQueen's Jeremy and David Anders' John Gilbert.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
