Instead of adapting online novels into streaming shows as is the trend on Chinese television, Sohu TV debuted on Friday in Beijing an original script.
Strong Debut
“Fox in the Screen” premiered strongly with over 330 million views. Topics related to the series, which is about three fox spirits who help the main character change her future, were viewed more than 65 million times on Sina Weibo, the most popular social media site in China, Global Times reported.
According to CFensi, the period drama “Fox in the Screen” stars Liu Xinqi as Zheng Xue Jing, Huang Junjie as Bai Sheng, Hao Zejia as Qiong Hua, Lui Leo as Yu Yan, Li Xing You as Zhang Qi Ming and Long Ni as Yun Tao. The series was originally set for release on Nov. 21, but it was postponed to Feb. 17.
The plot of “Fox in the Screen” revolves around the accidental acquisition of a magical pen by Zhen Xue Jing. She is a painter whose discovery liberated the three foxes from a screen. After she freed the foxes, she became their master.
Plans for 2017
Original intellectual property development and production has always been a tradition of Sohu TV, Zhang Chaoyang, Sohu TV CEO, said at a promotional event for “Fox in the Screen” on Friday. Sohu TV released around seven to eight high-quality dramas in 2016 which the video streaming platform plans to double in 2017.
Sohu TV wants to be known not only for streaming movies and TV series but also as a content creator. It plans to do that by entering into partnerships with excellent scriptwriters and producers of original dramas.
Among the shows on Sohu TV are the Korean sports drama “Oh Volleyball,” China’s version of “CSI,” “Medical Examiner, Dr. Qin,” the fantasy series “Weapon Soul” and the Korean webtoon-based drama “The Sound of Your Heart.”
