As a singer, Rihanna is known as one of the few top pop stars who have collaborated with the "Rap God" rapper Eminem. As an actress, the Detroit rapper's "The Monster" collaborators is set to play a character named Marion Crane in "Bates Motel" Season 5, which premiered on Feb. 20, Monday, on A&E.
The character is created by Robert Bloch in his 1959 novel titled "Psycho." In the 1960 film of the same name, which was directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the character was played by the late Janet Leigh.
"Bates Motel" Season 5 episode 1 titled "Dark Paradise" did not introduce Marion. Rihanna's character will be introduced in episode 5 titled "Dreams Die First," which is set to air on March 20.
In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Kerry Ehrin was asked whether or not the appearance of Marion was always part of the plan. The showrunner said it was a gut instinct that they would, but it felt appropriate to land somewhere in the world of "Psycho" as they wrapped up the story of "Bates Motel."
In another interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ehrin talked about Dylan Massett (Max Thieriot), who still did know that Norma had died. The executive producer added that it was not a surprise that Norman is living in denial and does not recognize his mother's death despite his role in it.
"For the most part, no," Erin told the publication. "It's too painful of an admission to look at. Norman is living in multiple realities and functioning at the moment."
"Bates Motel" Season 5 episode 2 titled "The Convergence of the Twain" will air on Feb. 27. Also featured in the episode are Andrea Brooks as Joanne Carlson, Olivia Cooke as Emma Decody, Ash Lee as Dr. Nguyen, Daniel Boileau as a clerk, Gaalen Engen as a store owner, Hugo Steele as an inmate and Sarah Ziolkowski as a bar patron, among others.
