Rihanna is set to have a big screen comeback in 2018 with "Ocean's Eight." Gary Ross's upcoming crime film will feature a rapper, who, unfortunately for Eminem's fans, is not Rihanna's four-time collaborator.
The rapper who will star in "Ocean's Eight" is Nora Lum, who is professionally known as Awkwafina. The last film that featured Awkwafina was the 2016 comedy film "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising," which starred Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, Chloe Grace Moretz, Ike Barinholtz, Kiersey Clemons, Dave Franco, Jerrod Carmichael and Selena Gomez, among others.
For Rihanna, the last time she was seen by her fans in a live-action film was in 2014. She played Moon Goddess in the comedy drama film "Annie," which also starred Byrne, Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, Bobby Cannavale, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Quvenzhane Wallis as the title character.
Seeing Rihanna and Eminem together in a film is unlikely as seeing the latter in a live-action film anytime soon. The Detroit rapper, whose only major project as an actor is "8 Mile," is currently working on his ninth studio album, which is expected to be titled "Success" and to be released in 2017.
On the other hand, Rihanna has been busy filming "Ocean's Eight." She was spotted carrying a Louis Vuitton backpack heading to the set of the film in New York City on Jan. 12, Thursday, Us Weekly reported.
With musicians Rihanna and Awkwafina, the cast of "Ocean's Eight" also includes fashion icons including Anna Wintour, Zac Posen and Alexander Wang. Among their co-stars are Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Sandra Bullock, Helena Bonham Carter, Damian Lewis, Mindy Kaling, Takako Haywood, Lauren Santo Domingo and Dakota Fanning, who is set to star in the TNT series "The Alienist," TV Line has learned.
Ross co-wrote the screenplay of "Ocean's Eight" with Olivia Milch. Watch Kaling drop hints about the upcoming film on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" here:
