On March 6, Monday, Jin Goo took to Facebook to share a photo of himself under a pine tree, which made it appeared like he was in Baguio City, Philippines. The South Korean actor is known for starring in "Descendants of the Sun" with Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo.
Pine trees are very common in Baguio, which is home to almost half a million residents. The city, dubbed the Summer Capital of the Philippines, and South Korean city Taebaek are twin cities.
With its mild climate, Baguio is one of the cities in the Philippines that Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike love to visit. In the city, it is common to find a South Korean who is there to study English as a Second Language.
In January, Baguio was one of the places visited by some of the Miss Universe 2016 candidates. Miss Korea 2015 Jenny Kim and Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere of France were among the candidates who visited the city.
The hodgepodge of cultures and ethnicities in Baguio is noticeable every February when the city celebrates a month-long flower festival called Panagbenga. Recently, the festival was featured in "Everlasting," an upcoming film made for TV.
"Everlasting" was directed by Brillante Mendoza, the Filipino director who won the Prix de la mise en scène or the Best Director award at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival beating Ang Lee and Quentin Tarantino. The film was written by one of Mendoza's protégés, Conan Altatis.
Like Mendoza, Jin attended the 2009 Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France. The "Descendants of the Sun" actor starred in the drama film "Mother," a film by Bong Joon Ho.
"Mother" competed in the Un Certain Regard section but lost to Greece's "Dogtooth," a film by Yorgos Lanthimos. Mendoza's "Butchered" and South Korea's "Thirst," a film by Park Chan Wook, were among the films that competed for the Palme d'Or but lost to Austria's "The White Ribbon," a film by Michael Haneke.
