Tropical Cyclone Pam is now regarded as the worst natural disaster in the history of Vanuatu. At least 24 people are known to have lost their lives, and 3300 people have been displaced, according to United Nations, CBC News reported.
Relief Workers are desperately trying to reach the archipelago nation.
Radio and Telephone communications are yet to be established with the remote outer islands. A state of emergency has been declared following the cyclone.
President Baldwin Lonsdale said, "I term it as a monster, a monster."
The amount of devastation caused is absolutely immense, many family homes have been stripped of their roofs houses have been flattened by very powerful winds and torrential rain.
According to the UN, Vanuatu is one of the world's least developed countries. It has a GDP of $828m compared to its neighbour Australia which has a GDP of $1.56tn.
The president of Vanuatu appealed for immediate help. Vanuatu is in immediate need after Cyclone Pam tore through the country at the weekend, BBC News has learned.
Paolo Malatu, co-ordinator for the National Disaster Management Office, said that planes and helicopters had been sent to fly over islands assess the situation
Military planes carrying relief supplies have started arriving from neighbouring countries Australia and New Zealand, and other countries have also offered to help. Commercial flights will start resuming from Monday.
The city's hospital are filling up with patients rapidly , and beds were moved outside due to safety reasons as the building bore the major brunt of the cyclone leaving their structures damaged.
The cyclone also caused damage in neighbouring Pacific islands of Kiribati and the Solomon Islands. Homes were evacuated in New Zealand on March 16, Monday, to escape flooding as the weakening storm moved past North Island.
Smashed boats and damaged household rubble littered the island as the storm laid waste to the island.
