Comedy Central is known for pushing the limits when it comes to roasting celebrities, but the spokesperson from the show admits that the jokes on the late Paul Walker during "The Roast of Justin Bieber" went too far.
In a statement released on Monday, March 16 via USA Today, the spokesperson announced that the Paul Walker jokes will no longer be shown in the telecast, which will air on March 30.
While the Paul Walker references will no longer be aired, the spokesperson defended the show, saying that the roasts are often made to push the participants to their limits. The spokesperson added that the show does that in order to bring out the show's personality and that the participants will always have the freedom to edit some portions of the show.
What were the Paul Walker jokes which made Ludacris furious?
Jeffrey Ross referenced to the "Fast and Furious" star, who died in a car accident on Nov. 20, 2013, in two consecutive jokes. Walker's co-star and friend Ludacris was in the audience and was obviously not pleased when Ross referenced his lyric and Walker in his jokes.
"Move b----, get out of the way. That's what Paul Walker should have told that tree," Ross joked in reference to Ludacris' lyric.
As if the joke was not enough to make Ludacris and some of the audience uncomfortable, Ross continued with another joke.
"Too soon? Too fast? Too furious? Give me a break, people, I'm trying to save this kid's life," Ross added.
Ludacris was "deeply upset" over the Paul Walker jokes, Daily Mail reported. The outlet cited not only was Ludacris upset, but the rest of the audience just kept silent when Ross spilled his line.
Apparently, Ross was not the only one who made a Paul Walker joke during "The Roast of Justin Bieber," as another roaster, Pete Davidson hinted on Paul Walker's movie, "Furious 7."
Davidson noted that Bieber got arrested in the previous year for drag racing and said that it was very unfortunate that he was not driving with Paul Walker that time.
"He's doing great! He's got a movie coming out," Davidson remarked.
The "Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber" was shot on Saturday, March 14 and will air on March 30.
