Microsoft announces free Windows 10 upgrades even for unauthorized Windows copies on its expected debut this summer.
Piracy continues to be one Microsoft's greatest problems, as more non-genuine versions of Windows spread in countries like China. To address this problem and engage to its growing users, the company announced at the Windows Hardware Engineering Community (WinHEC) summit in Shenzhen, China that they will provide Windows 10 even for unauthorized copies.
Terry Myerson, Microsoft's Executive Vice President of Operating Systems, reveals that this move is a great opportunity for the company to re-engage to its users worldwide.
According to Geek, this move is a win-win situation for Microsoft. Allowing everyone to upgrade to Microsoft's latest OS gives everyone a chance to take a look at Windows Store and avail its services. Through this the company can gain revenues as users purchase games and apps.
In relation to Microsoft's preparation to improve their user community and develop their own technological ecosystem, Myerson reveals the company's strategic plans to partner with top Chinese smartphone distributors and create more Windows 10 phones in order to cater more consumers in China and worldwide. PC Mag reports.
Lenovo is expected to release a Windows 10 phone this year. Leading Chinese smartphone company, Xiaomi, also jumped into the wagon and started their own Windows 10 tests on their smartphones prior to the OS release.
Myerson expresses his confidence on the company's new affiliation with Chinese distributors and says: "China is a global epicenter for innovation and we're excited to be working with the area's leading hardware and software companies to develop ground-breaking devices and consumer experiences that will help shape the future of Windows 10."
Billed as "Microsoft's best Windows yet," Windows 10 will be released and available to 190 countries and will support 111 languages this summer.
The OS upgrade is expected to include Microsoft's virtual assistant, Cortana, Project Spartan Web Browser and is expected will run on different platforms.
