Actor Jonathan Majors Arrested on Assault Charges, Maintains Innocence

"Creed III" and "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania" star Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York on Saturday on strangulation, assault, and harassment charges. Authorities claim he was involved in a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman. However, Majors' attorney argues that the actor is "entirely innocent" and has evidence to prove it.

The NYPD responded to a 911 call at around 11 a.m. Saturday in an apartment in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. A spokesperson for the NYPD stated, "The victim informed police she was assaulted. Officers placed the 33-year-old male into custody without incident. The victim sustained minor injuries to her head and neck and was removed to an area hospital in stable condition."

A representative for Majors denied the actor's involvement in any wrongdoing, stating, "He has done nothing wrong. We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up." On Sunday, Majors' attorney, Priya Chaudhry, provided more details, asserting that Majors was "provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows" and suggesting that the incident was the result of the woman experiencing "an emotional crisis."

According to Chaudhry, evidence supporting Majors' innocence includes "video footage from the vehicle where this episode took place, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the episode, and most importantly, two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations." The NYPD has not yet responded to requests for additional comment based on Chaudhry's claims.

Majors was arraigned Sunday on a complaint involving misdemeanor charges for assault and aggravated harassment, according to the Manhattan district attorney's office. He was released on his own recognizance Saturday night with a limited order of protection and is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.

In light of these allegations, the U.S. Army has suspended its TV ad campaign featuring Majors, aimed at younger audiences. The Army Enterprise Marketing Office stated that while Majors is presumed innocent until proven guilty, "prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is complete."

Majors has quickly become one of Hollywood's fastest-rising stars, with roles in "The Last Black Man in San Francisco," "Da 5 Bloods," "The Harder They Fall," and "Devotion." He also stars in the recent Sundance Film Festival entry "Magazine Dreams," slated for release in December by Searchlight Pictures.
