The airbag issue has continued to plague Honda and recently the Japan-based company announced that it will be adding more than 105,000 vehicles on its recall list.
The newest recall order will include the following cars and models; 89,000 Pilot SUVs 2008 model, 11,000 Civics 2004 model and 5,000 Accords 2001 model. Honda added that their investigative team found out that the 2008 model of its Pilot SUV's also has the same airbag problem as most of its vehicles.
The problem sprung from the airbag's manufactured by Takata Corporation, a Japanese company. According to The Day, airbags made by Takata has a big possibility of spewing out metal shrapnels that could harm drivers and passengers. Worldwide reports indicate that at least six people has already died due to the problem.
On a statement released by Honda, the company said that customers who has affected cars models can bring their car to their nearest dealers for service. The company added that the replacement of the defected airbags will be completely for free.
Including the latest added vehicles, Honda has already recalled more than 5.5 million vehicles brought upon by the airbag issue. This figure also includes Acura cars which is Honda's luxury car division.
More than 17 million vehicles in total, from 10 different car manufacturer, are affected by the defective airbag manufactured by Takata, according to Consumer Reports. The report added that the significant amount of affected vehicles was due to the fact that Takata was once the leading supplier of airbags in majority of car manufacturers. Major car manufacturers that has issued recall orders due to the airbag problem are the following; Honda, BMW, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota.
