Amy's Kitchen is voluntarily recalling more than 73,000 cases of its products that are laced with listeria monocytogenes.
The Food and Drug Administration said in a statement on Sunday that the food company learned from one of its many suppliers that the organic spinach used in their products might be contaminated.
People who eat listeria-contaminated food will be infected with Listeriosis, which mostly affects newborns, pregnant women, the elderly and anyone who has a weak immune system.
Around 1,600 people in the United States alone are estimated to be infected due to listeria and about 16 percent led to deaths, according to CNN.
Pregnant women who get a listeriosis cervical infection might result in unwanted spontaneous abortion between the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.
The products being recalled by the California-based food firm involved around 20 frozen entrees that contains organic spinach as an ingredient, including enchiladas, vegetable lasagna, spinach pizza, tofu scramble, pasta shells and more.
Amy's Kitchen sell its organic products through popular retailers in the U.S. such as Fresh Direct, Safeway, Whole Foods and more supermarket chains.
To date, there has been no reports of illnesses linked with the listeria issue. Amy's Kitchen advises its customers not to consume the listed items on the FDA website and that they can still be exchanged or refunded at the store they purchased the items at, according to WFMY News.
Wegmans Food Markets is also recalling frozen organic spinach that were sold at about 85 stores located in Virginia, New York, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
The FDA said that the affected products are 12-ounce frozen spinach products sold between Jan. 27 and Mar. 21. Wegmans said that the product can be refunded for the full price.
