The book became a bestseller at Amazon and iBooks when it was officially released on Mar. 24, according to 9to5 Mac. It is narrated by George Newbern.
Steve Jobs' ambition and edgy personality are already common knowledge in the tech world. However, the new biography provides a unique look at Steve Jobs.
"Steve Jobs" was the 2011 authorized biography of the Apple co-founder, by Walter Isaacson. Although the book sold millions of copies, people who knew Jobs best argue that Isaacson did not capture the essence of Jobs.
Apple CEO Tim Cook explained that the book is a "rehash" of material already written about Jobs. It also only focuses on small aspects of his personality, according to Time.
"Becoming Steve Jobs" is told from the first-person perspective of Brent Schlender, from Fortune and the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). The co-author is Rick Tetzeli, a Fortune coworker of Schlender.
The book focuses on Schlender's quarter-century professional relationship with Jobs. Many of the stories originate from the journalist's taped interviews with the tech innovator.
The book's central question is how a "reckless and arrogant" young man became the most "visionary" business leader in modern times. Ironically, Schlender's not writing a WSJ feature story after his first meeting with Jobs in 1986 launched their 25-year friendship.
In Schlender's last phone conversation with Jobs before the latter passed away, he refused to visit him because he was moody. Schlender rescheduled a visit with Jobs, but never followed through with his promise. He still regrets that.
