The stage adaptation of Disney’s “Mulan Jr.” is set to bring its audience to the legendary days of ancient China, complete with authentic Chinese dancing and culture-celebrating performances.
The “Mulan Jr.” production is slated on March 28, Saturday, at the Morton Middle School Auditorium.
Presented by the On Stage Theatrical Productions, the show will celebrate the top-calibre performances of about 40 young artists, all haling form the greater Fall River area. The youngsters are aged 6 to 18 years old.
The story follows the adventure of Mulan and her sidekick, Mushu the dragon, in an attempt to save the Emperor and free their land from the invasion of the Huns. Mulan, throughout her journey, breaks a number of conventions and learns and imparts valuable life lessons.
The adaptation, lauding honor and the power of fighting spirit, will include some of the world’s well-loved songs such as “Reflection,” “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” and “Honor to us All.”
Meanwhile, the stage play will also feature new parts of the musical score such as the song “Keep ‘Em Guessin’” that will get the crowd up on their feet.
“We want people to feel like they’ve gone on a trip, someplace very different, on a journey to China,” directors Linda and Roger Botelho remarked.
“The audience will enjoy being swept away to an exotic land with a dragon parade, lots of great singing, a great story and beautiful dancing,” the two eagerly revealed about the one-hour stage adaptation.
Apart from captivating the crowd with the production’s heartwarming story and extravagant artistry, the On Stage Theatrical Productions also aims to harness and hone young talents.
