While Valve confirmed that they will be giving out free bundles of HTC Vive, the virtual reality developer's kit to select people, they have also confirmed the contents of the bundle in their official Steam page.
Oculus Rift was the first to join the VR race to create immersive games but the company distributed developer kits for $350. The company is now owned by Facebook yet there is no confirmation on when it will get launched for consumers.
However, Valve, the owner of the largest PC digital distribution platform Steam and creator of "Half Life" series confirmed that the HTC made Vive VR headset will be launched before the end of 2015.In order to speed up the development process and get more developers on board, the company has decided to give out the SDKs for free. SteamVR page has also been officially updated which confirms the contents that will be included in the bundle, according to Techspot.
Every developer who receives the kit will get the headset, two exclusively designed Steam controllers as well as two base stations. The stations are used to record the person's movement which has to be placed in two opposite ends of the room, for the VR headset to work properly.
The official page also reports that those who are selected for the program will start receiving their kits this Spring. They may not have to pay anything for now but if they plan to keep it permanently and make more games, a nominal fee might be charged at a later stage, Gamespot reported.
HTC's Vive is a new entrant in the virtual reality space which is already becoming crowded with Oculus Rift, Sony's own Project Morpheus for Playstation 4 console and Samsung's VR Gear compatible with their Galaxy smartphones.
