Trevor Noah, a 31-year-old comedian from South Africa, has been confirmed as the official replacement of Jon Stewart and will take effect Monday night, the New York Times reported.
Noah first joined "The Daily Show" as a corresponded three months ago, but is now due to anchor the show in replacement of the veteran host's 16 years of service.
While completing a comedy tour, Noah said, "You don't believe it for the first few hours. You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you're in a place where you can't really get alcohol," referring to both the promotion and his current location which is the Middle East.
"All I needed in my life was Jon's blessing. That's what I have, so I'm looking forward to being part of The Best Damn News Show in the World," Noah said in a statement.
A South African son of a Swiss father and a Xhosa mother, Noah speaks six languages.
The Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless said, "He delivers a unique view of the world and a in-depth understanding of the nature of humanity, this is what makes his comedic throws so insightful. He is definitely a student of this world."
Though no specific details were given, Stewart is said to step down in July, or at the end of the year, Variety revealed. Aside from his hosting career, Stewart is presently an executive producer, also. The Busboy Productions, his firm, produces the "The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore," which was the replacement for "The Colbert Report."
Currently, Comedy Central is the sole network to have employed an African-American host in the person of Larry Wilmore.
