Canon is entering the compact camcorder competition with its new XC10 which boasts 4K video capability and a fixed wide-angle zoom lens.
The $2,500 digital camcorder is not to be mistaken as one of the company's DSLRs, which Canon is famous for. The new XC10 4K Digital Teleconverter is specifically designed for filmmakers and journalists with its impressive video-taking abilities.
Canon installed a 1-inch sensor on the new XC10 that can capture 4K videos at a pixel resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 and also full HD videos at 1080p. For the lens, it has a fixed 24.1 -241mm wide-angle zoom lens with an aperture range of f/2.8-5.6 and can zoom up to 10x and 2x digital teleconverter.
The new XC10 is also not left behind in terms of the emerging connectivity trend between gadgets. It has a built-in Wi-Fi support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual-band to be connected to tablets, smartphones, and remote shutter and even for a computer, according to Mashable.
That is not all, Canon's new XC10 also has slow and fast motion recording capabilities, making it ideal for filmmakers and the sporty types.
Despite not being a Canon DSLR, the new XC10 can still capture photos, but only at 12 megapixels and it can also extract stills from 4K footages at 8 megapixels.
Canon's new 4K digital camcorder is powered by the company's next-gen DIGIC DV5 signal processor for its 4K videos. It also has a 5-axis full HD image stabilization feature for those with shaky hands.
The XC10 camcorder uses two new video codecs: the XF-AVC Intra coded for 4K footages and the XF-AVC Log GOP for 1080p videos, according to PC Mag.
Canon said that their new 4K digital camcorder can be used by journalists for 4K Electronic News Gathering coverage.
The Japanese imaging company will launch the new XC10, which has an ISO range of 160 to 20,000, on June this year.
