"Everybody's Gone to the Rapture" is set to be launched this summer. The game is a PlayStation 4 exclusive and was developed by The Chinese Room and Sony Computer Entertainment Santa Monica Studio.
"Everybody's Gone to the Rapture" is largely based on a game previously created by The Chinese Room, namely "Dear Esther" and "Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs." The game was originally slated as a Windows exclusive title but the developers decided to transfer to the PlayStation 4 platform due to unconfirmed reason. Rumors has it that the developers decided to partner with Sony because they felt that raising money through crowd funding will not be enough to sustain the game's developmental stage.
Although the game is considered as a direct successor of "Dear Esther," the developers said that they added more environment interaction like manipulating various in-game objects as well as opening and closing of doors in order to add more gameplay options into it.
The game's eerie and post-apocalyptic was first revealed by its developers at a Sony's Gamescom presentation in 2013, according to Engadget. Many critics pointed out the game's orchestral soundtrack, minimalist gameplay and beautifully rendered environment as one of its strength.
Creative director Dan Pinchbeck said in a statement that the game's soundtrack is going to be a "major hit" and added that it is "one of the best game soundtracks ever created."
The game revolve around six characters with six major story arcs and many minor ones, according to Gamespot. Pinchbeck said, "One of the biggest questions we've asked ourselves is, how are we going to make you care enough about these characters that, three hours later when you're playing as someone else, you'll still associate some of the things you've seen with characters that you've already played as."
