John Travolta recently appeared on "Good Morning America" where he defended Scientology and slammed those who criticize the religion.
The religion was recently featured by HBO as part of their documentary, "Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief," which alleged instances of abuse by Scientologists, according to People.
"It's not understood. People need to take time and read a book. If you really read it, you'll understand," Travolta said.
The actor also suggested the book, "Dianetics and Scientology: A New Slant on Life" for everyone to read if they want to know more about Scientology.
Earlier this month, Travolta revealed that he hasn't seen the documentary "Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief."
However, when "Good Morning America" host Amy Robach asked him on why he thinks the religion is being criticized, the actor was quick to give his two cents on the issue.
"Sometimes, when something really works well, it becomes a target. Forty years for me, I've been part - and I've loved every minute of it. And my family has done so well with it," he explained.
Throughout the years, Travolta has credited his religion for helping him deal with the untimely death of his son Jett Travolata in 2009.
"Through the loss of my son, it helped me every step of the way for two years solid. And here I am talking to you because of it," he said.
Meanwhile, Travolta also talked about his upcoming film, "The Forger," which chronicles the life of a father whose son is dying of brain tumor.
"I try to separate my art from my life sometimes when it's that personal, but I believe that it's hard not to, sometimes, have it reflect," he explained.
