In an April 29 report by Quacquarelli Symonds, a British company specializing in education and study abroad, 85 universities from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan are among the world's top 400 educational institutions.
According to the report, 58 universities that met 35 out of 36 international subject-related criteria are from the mainland, while eight and 20 other institutions are from Hong Kong and Taiwan, respectively.
Included in the top 50 of the list are The University of Hong Kong at the 28th spot, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology at the 40th, The Chinese University of Hong Kong at 46th, as well as China's Tsinghua University at 47th.
The university rankings are proof that China has successfully enhanced its educational system over the past 30 years, said Dr. Christina Yan Zhang, senior officer of Quacquarelli Symonds.
On the other hand, 22 subjects of China's Peking University as well as 15 subjects of Tsinghua University are ranked among the top 50 in the world, Women of China reported.
Peking University's modern language subject, which is considered as the best among the rest of the subjects at the said university, is on the fifth spot in the world ranking.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from the United States hailed at the top spot of the list, followed by U.K.'s University of Cambridge and Imperial College London, both at the second spot.
Harvard snatched the fourth spot, while Oxford and University College London shared the fifth spot.
According to a report by Women of China, U.S. universities dominated the world's list with a total of 157 schools.
China is on the second spot, followed by the U.K. with 80, France with 56, and Germany with 47.
The ranking is based on the responses of 85,062 top scholars, 41,910 employers, 17.3 million academic publications, and over 100 million quoted data analyses from over a hundred countries in the world.
