Microsoft Corporation has great hopes for its new Windows 10 Operating System (OS), which it will launch for PCs sometime in the summertime. At the Windows Build 2015 meeting, it shared its Windows 10 goal for the OS to run on 1 billion devices in three years.
Terry Myerson is a Windows unit head. He made the announcement at the San Francisco conference, according to The Next Digit.
Previous reports claimed that Microsoft would launch Windows 10 for several platforms. However, Microsoft will not release its Windows 10 for smartphones and Xbox until after summer.
Last year, 1 million users downloaded Microsoft's Windows 10 Technical Preview. These users are registered with Microsoft's Windows Insider Program and will have an opportunity to test Windows 10.
At Windows Build 2015 Microsoft revealed some of its early partners for Windows 10. They include Intel, Qualcomm, Netflix, and Twitter.
Windows 10 will also provide developers a new method for building universal apps. The programmers can reuse old code for the Web or Android.
Interestingly, Microsoft allows developers to use Objective C, a programming language also used for coding Apple iOS apps. Developers are also able to add features for Windows over other platforms' apps, such as the Web, iOS, and Android.
These innovative moves could result in several existing apps being available for the Windows 10 platform. By the release of Windows 10 the platform could have nearly all critical apps for individuals and businesses.
However, Microsoft will also risk having several low-quality apps. Current iOS and Android apps will not become totally native apps for Microsoft's Windows 10.
Geoff Blaber, an analyst at CCS Insight, says that Microsoft's bringing iOS and Android apps to Windows 10 is an "imperfect solution." However, he explains that it is required to attract developers "otherwise lost" to Google and Apple, according to CXO Today.
Microsoft has also shared data about its HoloLens "augmented reality" project. The company has teamed up with Unity Technologies to revolutionize gaming.
