Chinese smartphones from manufacturers like Xiaomi get another competition in the form of the newest smartphone offering of LeTV.
LeTV, primarily an Internet service company, launched their own phone on May 5. Having been in the market for a little short of two days, the gadget has already accumulated 1.2 million buyers in pre-orders, reported CRIENGLISH.
The phones are pegged to be in the same class as the latest iPhone 6 without the hefty price tag, with the most affordable unit at 1,500 yuan.
According to Charles Clover from The Financial Times, the three variations of the phone introduced by LeTV offer not only top-notch resolution and high-speed video streaming, but also free Internet and video content. This is a huge advantage for LeTV, whose service features access to foreign content like a few Netflix-produced titles.
Despite the 1.2 million units expected to be sold come its actual release, some technology experts contest the gravity of the amount of pre-orders and compared it with that of major companies like Huawei and Xiaomi who garner upwards of 4 million orders a day.
"This is an encouraging number for LeTV, a newcomer smartphone maker. But it does not come as a huge surprise, nor is it very likely that the number is exaggerated, because frankly it's not that large," furthered Xin Haiguang, an industry expert.
With a multitude of smartphone brands available in the market, there is still a need for LeTV to prove its place among top brands like Xiaomi, which is a leader in the marketing strategy LeTV emulated in its new smartphone campaign, Clover further said.
