"Escape" hit maker Enrique Iglesias has suffered far more serious injuries than anticipated earlier in the recent Mexico concert, where his fingers were sliced open by a freak drone accident. The singer, who was later jetsetted to Los Angeles for further treatment, has to undergo a reconstructive surgery as several of his fingers were damaged badly.
Apart from other injuries, the singer, who turned 40 last month, has also fractured one of his fingers owing to the rapidly moving sharp blades of the drone. A statement appeared on the singer's Instagram page informing his fans about the mishap and his recovery status.
"He suffered a fracture that needed to be corrected in addition to the reconstructive surgery," read the statement which was met with overwhelming support from his fans. The singer is expected to recover fully during the next few weeks.
The incident happened during a concert in Tijuana, Mexico on May 30, Saturday, when while performing on his hit track "Escape," Iglesias tried to grab the flying drone to give the 30,000 people a view from the stage, Daily Mail reported.
This was not the first time that the singer was handling a flying drone, who reportedly often does the feat of grabbing it while performing to amuse his fans. However, this time, his fingers got caught in the rotating blades and he immediately smashed the drone to the ground before rushing back stage for first-aid.
Iglesias was given preliminary treatment at the concert, after which he continued to perform for another 30 minutes with his bloodied hand, much against the advice from his handlers. Watch the video below.
Concertgoers later posted graphic photos and videos on social media showing the "Hero" singer with blood all over his T-shirt on stage along with his clumsily bandaged hand. The internet was also filled with fans posting pic of love filled messages scribbled on their hand, wishing for the singer's speedy recovery. The singer is scheduled to perform on July 3 in Mexico City, The Guardian reported.
