General Motors has officially announced the latest 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible. Along with the announcement, GM released the cars specs sheet as well as a series of upgrades and new features.
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible was announced just weeks after GM debuted the 2016 Camaro series at Belle Isle Park in Detroit. The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will be officially released in the market before the end of 2016, while the 2016 Camaro Convertible will closely follow within the first quarter of 2016.
According to Business Insider, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible will be at least 200 pounds lighter compared to the 2015 model. Chevrolet was able to achieve this lightweight build by incorporating a stiffer and lighter structure design.
Camaro marketing manager Todd Christensen said, "The 2016 Camaro coupe will set the benchmark for the segment in terms of technology, performance and design. Adding the most sophisticated top in the segment brings another level of refinement - and driving enjoyment - to the Camaro convertible."
Just like the Camaro Coupe, the Camaro Convertible will be released in three variants depending on its engine; 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 275 horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 6.2-liter V8 with 455 horsepower. All the engine variant comes in with either a six-speed manual transmission or eight-speed automatic transmission, according to The Car Connection.
The four-seater Camaro Convertible's top can be remotely operated using the wireless key fob. The top has a full multi-layer construction that features thermal and acoustic barriers making it suitable for driving at any given season.
GM has yet to release the official 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible price. However, many industry analysts are speculating that it will go head-to-head with the 2016 Ford Mustang once it hits the market.
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, along with the Camaro Coupe, will be built at GM's assembly plant located in Lansing Grand River, Michigan.
